Referring a case to Wey

All clinicians at Wey care compassionately about their cases and are dedicated to providing an efficient service and the top quality clinical expertise you would expect from a leading referral centre.

We strive to ensure that the referral process runs as smoothly as possible and causes the least stress possible to yourselves, our clients and their pets.

In order that this can occur in the most efficient way, we would be grateful if you would assist us by providing the following information prior to the referral:

  • A referral letter broadly indicating the nature of the referral, diagnostics performed so far, and your discussions with your client that may include, for example, differential diagnoses, treatment options and prognoses and your client's expectations.
  • Full copies of all relevant laboratory reports.
  • All case notes relevant to the referral condition.
  • All radiographs relevant to the referral.

Armed with this information, we know exactly what has already been discussed with our client and what their expectations and limits are.

It is very helpful to us if you can discuss the likely cost of referral with your client prior to their appointment.  In order to assist with this, we are always happy and willing to give estimates of treatment over the telephone.

We would also appreciate it if you could make your client aware that payment is due, in full, at the time of the treatment and discharge of every patient.  We regret that we cannot entertain direct claims to insurance companies.  We are, however, happy to process clients' insurance forms promptly as soon as they are submitted to us; we offer this service free of charge.

Each patient has a full clinical examination at the time of first consultation.  Following this the clinical problem, diagnostic and treatment options together with indications, contraindications and prognoses will be discussed in detail with your client.  They are then able to make an informed choice and often we can make a recommendation to help them to make this choice.

It would be helpful to us if clients are made aware that they are being referred to us for a consultation rather than a specific procedure ie ultrasonography, MRI scan, cystotomy; but that the procedures may be carried out as part of our overall investigations.

We try our hardest to ensure that diagnostics and treatment can be performed on the same day as the initial consultation.  However, due to the unpredictable nature of medical care, we hope that you understand that this may not be possible in every case.

If we can help in any other way prior to referral of one of your clients and patients, then please do not hesitate to contact Wey reception who will be pleased to help.
